What is IT-Alert? How does IT-Alert work?

It is a NATIONAL alarm system being tested.

In recent weeks, many of us have had our phones go crazy!
It made an alarm sound and left you a message like this below,

It-Alert, this is a test message:

This is the new Civil Protection system to alert the Italian population .

System that will be used to warn of any dangers such as: earthquakes, tsunamis, eruptions, fires or other imminent or ongoing events.

How does IT-Alert work?

Its operation is very simple, civil protection sends an alert message to the smartphones of people who are in the affected area. So it could also be a message delivered to the "zone".


Ex : Earthquake in a specific area, the alert will not go to the entire Italian population, but to that specific area involved.

As regards the TEST message, once it arrives you can fill out a questionnaire to improve the service.

Here are the testing dates:

There are scheduled dates for the experimentation and they are:

  • 28 June 2023 , Tuscany
  • 30 June 2023 , Sardinia
  • 5 July 2023 , Sicily
  • 7 July 2023 , Calabria
  • 10 July 2023 , Emilia Romagna

For the remaining regions no dates have yet been set.

When will IT-Alert be officially active?

The system will most likely be officially activated starting from 2024.

Possible cases can be:

  • Tsunami (generated by an earthquake)
  • Collapse of a large dam
  • Nuclear Accidents
  • Radiological emergencies
  • Volcanic activity
  • Major accidents of a natural or industrial nature
  • War
  • And other events
